Best of both worlds

no longer do i have to pack a shotgun mic and a wireless mic kit. This kit gives me the option to use either in one kit. I primarily prefer to use shotgun style mics but on occasion a wireless mic is a necessity when i or my subject is moving throughout the frame. The shotgun mic delivers very good audio. The wireless mic also offers exceptional audio for such a budget kit. There is an option to use both mics simultaneously. In this mode you can leave the wireless mic attached to the back and capture front and rear sound. Both mics can be charged via usb-c and hold a charge well.

Great Affordable Mic

Boya did it again! These are the best affordable mics option out there. It's important to note that you shouldn't compare Boya with Rode or other high-end professional mics, but for the price, this mic is excellent. It's simple and comprehensive to use, and I love the little details Boya includes, like the storage pouch, two different windscreens, and the multifunctionality. The shotgun mic (RX) can also work as a receiver, while the detachable round part serves as a transmitter (TX). However, the outdoor performance is just okay, not much different from my Sony ZV-1 II (at least for my use). It performs well in indoor settings, making it perfect for product showcase vlogs where both the object and camera have minimal movement.

It's fine

It's fine. But my first impression was that the material isn't very durable, nor is its construction. I was hoping for a lighter weight. This is also true of the BM6060, which I believe is metal. However, considering its price, it's a normal and acceptable material. All in all, my opinion is more or less positive. In the future, I will consider purchasing the traditional BOYA BY-BM6060.

The quality / price ratio is good

The quality / price ratio is good. I would have gave a lower rating due to the fact that the deadcat from the small mic came broken but the rest of thepack is actualy good

Solid Mic with Room for Improvement

Decent Quality The BOYA MM1W shotgun mic gets the job done, and the quality is pretty decent for its price. I was able to clean up some background noise from an interview during post-production, so it’s workable if you have the tools to refine the audio.Easy Installation and Extras Installation was a breeze, and I really appreciated that it came with a dead cat for outdoor use. It’s a nice touch, especially at this price point.Sound Performance The gain is just okay, and the noise floor is acceptable but not amazing. It’s not a professional-grade mic, but for vlogging, live streaming, or casual interviews, it performs well enough.

Not really a shotgun mic

I can see how the listing can be confusing, but you get one cardioid Mike that’s mountable on a camera and a Lavalier piece. Can use them both at the same time, but you only get a single output. And as it is hard to balance these two different microphones, I would recommend using either orSound isn’t terrible, but it’s pretty much commensurate with the cost. You’re not going to get real high-end audio here. I am not sure this would be sufficient for making high-quality YouTube videos. This company makes much better microphones, but it’s gonna cost you more.Still pretty fair value for the price although I’m not sure what the exact use cases for having the dual microphones the way they do.

Decent microphone

This is a decent shotgun microphone that pics up sound in the direction that the microphone is directed. It comes with the required cables for both TRS and TRRS input and works both wired and with 2.4 Ghz. I prefer to use the wired connections for music and the wireless for voice. It's not that i detect a significant difference in sound quality between the wired and wireless but just my old superstitions about wireless connections. Wireless connections occur without issues and are maintained without disruptions. Initial impressions are that his is a decent microphone.

Combination of 2 microphones which can be used together or separately; all cables, muffs, bag

The Boya BY-MM1W provides you with a combination of two microphones which can be used together or separately.DEVICES - The two devices are:(1) 2.4GHz wireless omnidirectional microphone (TX)(2) wired cardioid directional microphone (RX)You can clip the wireless piece to the back of the transmitter piece when you store it away.MOUNTING OPTIONS - The transmitter (TX) is the size of a thick button and has a metal clip to attach it like a lavalier mic to your subject. The receiver (RX) is a 3.5" long cylinder-shaped mic that has a shock-mount with cold shoe to mount onto a camera. At the bottom of the cold shoe mount is a standard 1/4" hole to optionally mount this on top of a tripod or anything using 1/4".AUDIO CONNECTION OPTIONS - The receiver plugs into your "audio capture" unit whether it be a DSLR camera, smartphone, tablet, computer, or portable recorder. It has a wide 20-20,000Hz audio frequency response for high-quality sound and up to 200 meters of wireless transmission. It also has noise cancellation control for 48kHz/24bit HD audio format."On the side of the receiver you have a slider to choose the combination of the two mics you need "live":RX = receiver onlyMIX = bothTX = transmitter onlyAs others have pointed out, if you opt to record a "MIX" of both mics simultaneously... you get them on the same channel. There is no option to put them on separate L and R channels and therefore no option to control volume of the near and far mics individually. If you intend for both the person behind the camera to speak as well as the on-camera talent, I believe it will be less work to just make one mic live, the omni-directional lavalier TX mic. You then have the person behind the camera speak loud enough to be heard on the lavalier. If during editing you find that their sound isn't loud enough, you would just need to re-record the voice of that person who is off-camera. And since they are off-camera anyway there is no problem of having to sync and match the re-recorded narrative to lip movement of the speaker. It's like adding "voiceover" to the video. The wireless is omni-directional and seems to pick up sound well, so hopefully you won't have to do that.IN THE PACKAGE - You get everything you need:> BY-MM1W receiver microphone> BY-MM1W transmitter microphone> shock mount for the receiver> foam windscreen for the receiver> dead cat for the receiver> dead cat for the transmitter> 2 USB-A to USB-C charging cables (for both mics)> 3.5mm TRS to TRS audio cable> 3.5mm TRS to TRRS (three rings) audio cable> storage bagThe TRS to TRRS is what you need to plug into smartphones or computers that have one port that serves as both mic and headphone jack. If you have an iPhone with lightning port, you'll need a 3.5mm to lightning adapter. If you have an Android with USB-C, you'll need a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter. The receiver and transmitter take about 2 hours to charge up, which is reasonable. I haven't tested how long they last, but the Boya specs say the transmitter lasts 4.5 hours and the receiver 9 hours. The Boya BY-MM1W is a nice, solid device using black aluminum alloy construction for the body of the receiver and transmitter. I find the sound quality to be quite good, especially at this price point. It's a good beginner's package as you are getting a really decent wireless lavalier with this unit and you also get the receiver which is a credible standard shock-mountable on-camera mic.

Actually fits a common use case very well

So here is my use case and what I like about this mic combination. I am the one with the DSLR when my wife and I travel. So in the past, the audio is just ambient, a little of me breathing while walking (not so great) but the only time I would hear what she was saying is if I was filming with the camera close enough to pick her up. So what normally happens when you are editing this footage is that you would love to hear what the other person in the scene is saying so you kind of amp that up, but then I come in saying something right above the camera and now that is WAY TOO LOUD. So I have tried shotgun mics, stereo mics, cardioid mics, but none of them really get that reach into the scene to balance out what the mic is picking up from the operator, i.e. me breathing while walking. Well, this combo solves it. So now all I have to do is clip the external lav mic onto her backpack, and now it is a nicely balanced combination of both of our audible experiences while walking around. It's kind of a remarkable playback experience, really. For example, once I crossed the street and turned back to film her coming across to join me. She is 50' away and says something to our dog and it is as if she is right with me.Now all that being said, this is kind of a simple setup, and that has advantages and disadvantages. One good thing is that you don't have to hassle with a complicated connection. Turn the lav mic on and it automatically pairs. One disadvantage, they are both on the same channel. It would have been nice if they separated to right and left when both are being used. That would make editing easier. But really, I think that for a more casual use case, this is perfect. I have it mounted to a quick-connect and can easily pull it out of my bag and pop it on. The sound quality is great but not studio quality. That's not even what I would expect at this price point. It's also pretty small altogether and when mounted to the camera. The dead cats do what dead cats do. We actually ran with no dead cat on the lav since it was not too breezy that day and didn't notice any unwanted noise.I would definitely recommend.

Good budget mic + wireless mic

Review for: "BOYA MM1W Shotgun Mic for Video Camera, Shotgun Microphone with Shock Mount, External Microphone for iPhone, Android, Smartphones, DSLR Camcorders, Ideal for Recording, Live Streaming, and Vlogging"This is a budget hybrid Microphone, one of its kind. It has the traditional "shotgun" cardioid mic, that attached to camera with cold shoe, and wireless microphone.the wired mic, is also act as receiver for the wireless mic, and there is a switch option to select between the combination of the 2 mics. The wireless mic is claimed a distance of 98 feet, but I don't expect it to be reliable for that range.bot of the mics has build in rechargeable battery that use USB-C to charge them. It claims to have 4.5 hours wireless battery life. The sound quality is okay, not bad but I don't expect it to be on par with the high end wireless mic as Rode or DJI either considering the price point.I wish it can record the 2 mics as separate L - R channel so we can balance it later or mix it as we wish. For the asking price of $69.99 is a good budget mic + wireless mic.

surprisingly good for a budget minded wireless and shotgun mic combo

I have a thing for mics...I just love how each one has its own quality and sound to make it unique. So when I see an interesting new design, well I just gotta try it out. The audio in the attached video is straight from camera, no edits. Here's what I found in the MM1W:- this is really kindofa unique design, with the wireless lav mic clipping onto the back of the mini shotgun when not it use is smart, as it keeps it all together. So far no issues with the clip itself, but the lav mic clip is metal while the receiver where it attaches is plastic...so I imagine over time it won't fit as snugly as the metal slowly wears down the plastic- it is a very hot mic...I turned the volume down to -8 of -10 in camera, and was still crossing the -12db threshold quite a bit- while the lave mic does definitely have a little of that "wireless" sound to it...no one will question or judge it in content creator style videos, and it should be fine for most impromptu filming, interviews, etc. and the great thing about audio is that it is often much easier to edit to sound good than images...and the newest wave of audio tools can make this sound pretty great- I actually really like where the low end is here. some of the big name shotgun mics have waaay to much bass for me...and it is harder to remove low end than to add it in post...something to be mindful of- charges really really fast, which is a definitely plus for on the go, run and gun shooting, and the compact size makes it silly easy to carry in a go kit.I think at the price point this is a really great option for most social media individual content creators. Professionals are going to want better sound right out of camera to spend as little time editing as possible, but this really is a solid starting point. I think at this price point, it's win and an no-brainer. So if your preferred style of mics is shotguns and/or wireless lavs...this is gonna be great gear for the budget minded.

Very good for multiple uses.

The big microphone is also a receiver for the button microphone we connect to the back end of this one. Both of them have a USB-C charging port. Each charges on their own, and cables come with it.The little button mic clips on to us for distance audio, and the short shotgun can connect to our smartphones, or a GoPro 8 (the one I have... I am sure others that use that Dongle).Anyway, the cables are TRS - TRS (GoPro Dongle), and also TRS - TRRS (smartphone). It is a bonus to be able to use either or both mics, and we can select one, the other, or mix them both with a switch on top of the big mic.I am quite happy with the capability of this product... nicely done!Five Stars!

Tested and was awesome

Got this for all the kids concerts so i can record with better sound, and i am able to clip a microphone to my kids shirts while they are singing to further enhance the sound coming into the camera. Haven’t really tried vlogging with this but i can assume quality will be greater. It isnt as small as a rode microphone but will work for the time being.
