Very good general purpose mic. Easy to keep handy at all times due to its small size. Thanks to its sensitivity it picks up sounds from a distance. Good value for money.

Better than the phone mic.

Great little mic for the price and works quite well to capture birding soundscapes. It’s omnidirectional so not as good for isolating individual bird song, but still a noticeable improvement over my iPhone’s built-in mic. Also solidly built and has held up well with near-daily use. If you’re looking for a step up from a built-in phone mic but aren’t ready to spend big $$ on a directional mic & recorder, the BOYA BY M100UC Mini is a good choice.

This microphone is great for a plug-n-play, compact, lightweight sound enhancer. What it does is amplify all the sounds around you. I've found it is ideal for use with a bird call identification app such as Merlin. For whatever reason, boosting both the bird calls and background noise causes the app to be much more likely to identify a bird. It also is small and connects directly without a cord, so you can use only one hand to hold the phone and mic, making it easier to use a camera or binoculars at the same time.The only reason it is not 5 stars is because of the wind noise and sound quality. The provided wind screen is going to fall off and disappear quickly even if you use a rubber band. With or without the wind screen, you will get a lot of wind and background noise. This is not a professional microphone for making a high quality recording. If the goal is to make a professional video or audio recording, then a larger, more expensive microphone would serve that purpose better.
