BOYA Castmic P60: USB and XLR Setup for Podcasts

BOYA Castmic P60: USB and XLR Setup for Podcasts

BOYA Castmic P60 is a desktop microphone with USB and XLR connections. The current product information lists a cardioid capsule, input-gain and monitor-volume controls, and BOYA Central customization. Choose the connection path for your recording device first; do not assume the same software features or power requirements apply to both outputs.

Choose USB or XLR for the Task

Path Suitable starting point Check before use
USB A compatible computer or other supported USB recording device Connector, system input, application permissions and available BOYA Central functions.
XLR A compatible mixer or audio interface Cable, input type, gain and the P60 manual’s power instructions.

Use the product instructions to establish the supported configuration. Do not apply a power setting merely because it is common for another microphone. An XLR connection does not by itself provide a computer input without the appropriate receiving equipment.

Position the Microphone Before Setting Gain

Use the pickup side and orientation identified in the manual. Keep the speaking position consistent and place the microphone so desk vibration and keyboard activity are minimized. A cardioid pattern is directional, but it does not remove all room sound.

Make a short spoken sample from the position you will actually use. If you move farther away to see a screen or turn toward another person, include those movements in the test.

A Practical Setup Sequence

  1. Connect the selected USB or XLR path following the manual.
  2. Select the intended input in the recording or streaming software.
  3. Start with a conservative supported gain setting and speak at the loudest level you expect.
  4. Check the recording meter and listen for distortion.
  5. Adjust headphone monitoring for comfortable listening, without assuming it changes the recorded gain.
  6. Record and replay a local file before the podcast or stream.

Use BOYA Central Features Deliberately

The current P60 product description lists EQ, limiter and monitor-mix adjustment through BOYA Central. Verify which functions are available on your device, software version and connection path. Start with a clean sample, change one control and compare.

A processing preset should solve a recognizable problem. If speech sounds thin or unnatural, compare with processing disabled before increasing the effect. Keep a note of the settings used for a repeatable series.

Build a Repeatable Desk Workflow

For a solo podcast, save the tested software input and check it at the start of every session. For a stream, test voice alongside game or music audio. For a remote interview, verify the call application’s microphone and monitoring behavior as well as the local recorder.

An unedited test sample is more useful for choosing a setup than a claim that one microphone is universally better than standard USB models. No independent comparison result is claimed here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will USB and XLR behave identically?

They are different signal paths. Check the manual and supported software features for each.

Does monitor volume set the recording level?

Do not assume so. Check input gain and the saved recording separately from headphone listening volume.

What should I upgrade first?

Identify whether the limitation is placement, room noise, routing or equipment. Correct setup problems before adding hardware.
